Fiber Access Technologies
Fiber-to-the-home and optical access systems that deliver high-speed connectivity to end users.
Focusing on last-mile connectivity technologies that deliver reliable, high-speed internet access to end users.
BAN Lab (Broadband Access Networks) is a laboratory under Oasis Lab dedicated to research on broadband access networks, with a focus on last-mile connectivity: the final segment that connects homes, buildings, and businesses to the network. This is where users actually experience the internet, so its quality directly shapes how reliable and fast their service feels.
We study the technologies that bring high-speed access to end users, covering fiber-to-the-home, wireless and Wi-Fi access, and the design, deployment, and operation of access networks. Our approach looks at both the technical side (capacity, coverage, and stability) and the practical side, such as cost, installation, and how well the network holds up in real environments.
At BAN, research goes hand in hand with experimentation. Members build access network testbeds, measure throughput, latency, and signal quality, analyze how networks behave under real usage, and evaluate ways to improve coverage and reliability. The results are studies, prototypes, and recommendations that can be applied in real deployments.
The laboratory is open to students, lecturers, and industry partners who want to collaborate, from joint research and final-project supervision to technical training and case studies based on real access network needs.
