Network Integration
Architectures that unify fixed-line and mobile networks under common control and management.
Studying the seamless integration of fixed-line and mobile networks to enhance service continuity and user experience.
FMC Lab (Fixed & Mobile Convergence) is a laboratory under Oasis Lab dedicated to research on the seamless integration of fixed-line and mobile networks. Our goal is to make the boundary between the two invisible to users, so that services stay continuous and consistent whether they connect through fiber, Wi-Fi, or cellular.
We study how fixed and mobile networks can share common core platforms, policies, and service layers, covering network integration, multi-access connectivity, session and handover management, and unified service delivery. Convergence is approached from both sides: the technical architecture behind the network, and the experience felt by the person using it.
At FMC, research goes hand in hand with experimentation. Members build test environments, simulate converged scenarios, measure quality of service and quality of experience, and evaluate how different access technologies behave when users move between them. The results are studies, prototypes, and recommendations that can be applied in real service environments.
The laboratory is open to students, lecturers, and industry partners who want to collaborate, from joint research and final-project supervision to technical training and case studies based on real convergence needs.
